MISSION
IN THE CITY DREAM
To put our vision
into action we developed a movement called, "Mission In The City".
Mission In The City is what we do to connect people to the Vision, to God,
and to a Better life. It allows us to go throughout the city acquiring land,
building homes, safe houses, creating jobs, creating businesses, providing
positive community gatherings, and meeting needs.
The fulfillment of this dream will assist the City of Saginaw public safety,
and the police department in removing the blight within the community that's
causing gunfire, drug traffic, abandoned houses, & community gangs.
It will also offset the damaging effects of poverty and structural disadvantages
that cause serious crime among youth. Currently, the following statistics
are eating at the weak edges of our communities and causing people to not
want to live in the City of Saginaw nor its neighboring cities:
Abandoned Houses
As of March 2007 Saginaw has over one hundred and eighty (180) abandoned houses in the city.
This is the perfect picture for drug traffic, shootings, prostitution, and loss of
property value. Therefore, resulting in people moving out of the city limits.
Homicides
According to the statistical reports for the City of Saginaw in 2006 alone we experienced
one hundred and forty shootings (140) and twenty six (26) homicides. While the year 2007 is moving at the
same pace resulting in eight (8) less shootings and four (4) less homicides according to the January -
February reports of both 2006 and 2007.
We believe that this kind of destructive behavior is the result of something deeper and
that immediate restoration could begin through community development and programs that will meet the need
of the whole person.
We believe that if Saginaw is going to be rebuilt or revitalized then somebody
has to leave a legacy for the next generation to work with. Our mission
is to do just that! In changing the direction for our church, we as a body made a major decision to
not build the new worship center we had planned to build, but rather to invest into our community to
give hurting people hope.
As of January 2006, we cast the vision for Mission In The City, and begun
a three year campaign to build a building that will house programs to meet
each of our community survey needs. Our membership has commited to over
a half million dollars over the next three years to make this dream come
true.
Our first project is to build a Safe House.
This facility will house life changing programs that will meet the basic
needs of people as it relates to intellectual, physical, spiritual, and
social development whereby, people can become connected to God and to an
inspired vision that will bring hope into our city. The Bible teaches that,
"Where there is no vision, the people perish" Proverbs 29:18.
To perish means crime and sin run wild.
Our mission is to put things in place so that growth and change can take
place, therefore, we dream of a Safe House as it relates to those four pillars
of growth.

When the programs
God has given for this project come together, it will be a safe place for
the young, mid-age, and elderly to learn, develop their lives, connect with
God and build relationships with people. For more information about our
programs concerning these four pillars, please contact the church at (989)

The Safe House will be known as "THE GEM". A gem
is a precious stone. We believe that every person regardless of their background,
past, hurts, habits, or hang-ups is a precious stone in the eyes of God.
Many are diamonds that need to be brought out of the rough into the smooth.
We believe that Saginaw is a good place to live and the people are good
people to live with.
Our goal for this mission project is to provide the connection to turn people
into precious stones for Christ and their community, that together we might
be built into a spiritual house and become a holy priesthood for God offering
spiritual sacrifices unto God, in a way that will make the city of Saginaw
better than what it is.
"As you come to him, the living Stone--rejected by men but chosen
by God and precious to him --"You also, like living stones,
are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering
spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ." 1 Peter
2:4-5 (NIV)
